“J.C.A.C.M. envisions a city where residents are safe to walk the streets with their families and enjoy a high level of comfort and happiness within Jersey City.

Co-founded in 2014 by Pamela Nicole Johnson M.P.A., a lifelong public service oriented individual, the Jersey City Anti-Violence Coalition Movement is a non-profit organization that “works to eradicate violence and reduce the impact of violence on families, victims, and the community.” Ms. Johnson is firmly committed to fighting to ensure all children receive a good education, as she believes that “a lack of education is not only a disservice to all human being but it supports social and economic disadvantages.” She earned her M.P.A. Public Administration from St. Peter’s University, and is mother to two children. Outside of JCACM, Ms. Johnson is active in Jersey City youth basketball, and other leadership/activism initiatives.

The mission statement is telling of the goals of the organization:

“Their mission is to reduce violence, empower residents and restore hope to the community through initiatives that increase community engagement, improve the quality of life in neighborhoods, increase economics development, generate jobs and support victims of violent crimes. They work directly with residents, other community organizations, law enforcement, elected officials and more to execute against these initiatives.”

JCACM is incredibly active in the Jersey City community and heads a number of initiatives geared at either preventing or reducing violence, with some emphasis on youth. For example, the organization developed mentorship program that pairs youth with “an experienced friend who can help in any number of situations.” Another hallmark event is the Unity Walk, which gave birth to the JCUNITY Community Empowerment Program (To Be Held On June 10, 2017, check JCACM.org for details). In addition to these, JCACM also partners with others for various anti-violence events in the Jersey City community, such as the African American Festival.

The organization is regularly covered by news media for the prominent role it often plays in the lives of people ravaged by violence and disadvantage. It prides itself on providing a voice for the voiceless. Headquartered at 285 Westside Avenue, Jersey City NJ, they can be reached at our office, or emailed through their website JCACM.org. Evan Xavier Bakhet is a J.D. Candidate at Rutgers School of Law-Newark with a scheduled graduation date in 2017. He collaborated with me on this blog.
